August 4, 2021 • Top Story Student journalists gather for SPJ’s inaugural Student Leadership Institute SPJ brought together about two dozen journalism and communications college students from across the country this summer for immersive leadership training that included discussions about ethics and diversity. The three-day Student Leadership Institute, held at a camp in Indianapolis, was taught through hands-on training, coaching sessions and interactive activities on such topics as workplace culture, conflict management, building an inclusive environment and managing change. One session explained when and how to apply SPJ’s Code of Ethics. The institute was funded by the Scripps Howard Foundation and organized and led by SPJ Director of Education Karyn Nishimura Sneath.
